About Grant Engineering
Grant Engineering works where New York City buildings meet the ground and meet each other. We investigate the soil, design the foundation and the structure, protect and monitor the buildings next door, and inspect the work as it is built.
Stephen Morse, P.E., founded the firm in lower Manhattan in 2006. Since then we have worked on more than 1,500 projects in all five boroughs, from a single beam in a brownstone to the foundations and inspections for NYC highrises.
What sets us apart
- Design and inspection in one firm. The same firm can investigate the site, design the foundation, monitor the neighbors and inspect the construction. Our inspectors understand the design because we are designers, and our designs can be built because we watch construction every day.
- We work on both sides of the property line. We design excavations for owners and developers, and we review them for the neighbors next door. We know what a sound monitoring plan and a fair access agreement look like from each side.
- A Professional Engineer on every job. A licensed PE reviews and signs every report, and you can reach the people doing your work.
- Clients come back. One national restaurant group has used us at more than 30 New York City locations since 2016. One law firm has brought us more than 30 matters. One structural engineering firm has brought us on for geotechnical investigations, geotechnical design, and special inspections on over 25 projects. One architecture firm has brought us into over 70 projects. One MEP firm has brought us into over 25 projects for our structural, geotechnical, and inspections expertise.

Stephen Morse, P.E., President and Founder. Principal-in-charge of the firm's engineering. MS in Civil Engineering, Columbia University. Licensed in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Rob Wainwright, Chief Operating Officer. Runs the firm's finance, operations and people, and manages projects and client relationships. OSHA 30 certified, and still on site installing monitors when a job needs it. With Grant for 10 years, after more than 15 years in banking.
